Hurricane Sandy

I hope everyone is warm and safe after Hurricane Sandy hit last Monday. You will be happy to know I was one of the lucky 8% who did not lose power on Long Island. I also was lucky enough to have little to no damage done to my home. I only wish I could say the same for friends and neighbors here in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Walking around yesterday I go to see the damage first hand. Down towards Mastic beach, only one or two blocks away from my home, people were so flooded that docks had washed up onto their lawns. There are so many downed trees and so many flooded home. For a long time I thought disasters like this only happen down south. Long Island hadn't seen a bad Hurricane since before I was born.

It's going to take a while for everything to get back to normal; specially for those who lost their homes to the storm. If you are in the area do your best to open your home to friends who may need a warm shower and food. If you aren't in the area you can also help out the hurricane effort by donating some money to a hurricane relief organization like The Red Cross.

Do what you can and stay safe!
