I SWEAR I'M STILL HERE

You guessed it. It has been a bit busy for me. I'm currently working through my holiday commission. I still have a couple slots open if you are interested. Just let me know Via email or facebook or deviant art  or Hound comics.com. Yeah just get ahold of me. :)

So Lush and I have FINALLY gone into full production of our totally awesome Cook Book. It was really hard working on it when we were on tour. Now that it's the off season we get a chance to sit down and actually talk.

I need to keep this short for now but here are some pictures from the awesome Bratrocity Red Carpet. So much fun.

Wizard World Mid Ohio Comic Con 2011 - Mina Sanwald - Speed Drawing

Semi-October wrap-up and GINGER GIRLS

Phew, that was a lot of work. October was quite a crazy month for me. First the Forest of Fear, Then New York Comic Con, and the Mid-Ohio Comic Con. Yikes, I'm tired. Everything went really great and I had a great time.

I got to meet so many great people. The Guys at the Autodesk booth at NYCC were beyond kick-ass. I have been playing with sketchbook pro since i met you. The program so SOOOOO versatile. For any artist out there who hasn't tried this great program check out  the AutoDesk website.

All you Commission and Print lovers, just gotta say thank you for supporting my artwork. You guys ROCK! You people who aren't afraid of coming by the table and looking at art and the books and asking questions, you are why i LOVE being on tour with Hound Comics inc. Please keep on coming by. I LOVE IT!

I know i really need to post the commissions I did and all the videos that were made but I am still swamped with work. If i can somehow get my layout the way I want it today, maybe later on I will totally post some great stuff.

Before I go I need to talk about the project Ginger Girls. This is a documentary about the secret lives of red heads. Although I am not a red head myself I was fortunate enough to be hand picked by the films producer Alexia Anastasio to animate the three minute opening. I'm really honored. Like any indy film we need funding for this project. So your asking yourself, "What can I do?". Well thats simple. Go to KickStarter and become a backer. Any amount helps us. If we can reach $5000 we can go into full production. Remember any amount helps. :) Thanks everyone

And before I go

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!!!!!!

Scranton Comic book convention

First thing is first. MY HAIR IS PURPLE!!! I LOOK LIKE A GENDER BENDER TRUNKS FROM DBZ... hmm, cosplay idea.

So Scranton comic book convention was a very cool lil con. I think the Hound comics video says it best. Etan actually managed to catch me doing my evil cackle. The video also excels at displaying my love of burritos. Enjoy!

Also I've been working on new prints. I have my Alice print almost done, just need to color her. But also I have started work on a very special Brimstone and the Borderhounds comic. I can't show to much but for anyone who follows me on facebook you have already seen the cover in progress.

I think that is all for now. If you want to see more artwork don't forget to hop onto Deviant Art and put me in your "Watch" category. I'll be posting more often.

Love Mina!!!!

CHICAGO!!!!!!! *fireworks*

Okay Okay, i guess it's time i finally wrote about the most fantastic of fantastic convention so far on my Wizard World tour.

**WIZARD WORLD CHICAGO**

Fun does not even begin to describe all the fun I had. There were SO MANY PEOPLE. Fans of all shapes and sizes. Admittedly I didn't get to walk around much cause i was drawing at the Hound Comics table.

With me at the Table was Hounds lead artist Sajad Shah, Inker Allen Chickering, and, drum roll please, Former Disney animator Terry Naughton. This was the first time i was meeting the rest of the hound artist. They are a really really great group of guys. At first i was really intimidated. I mean who is going to pay attention to this little girl who only just broke into the comic book industry? i soon came to realize that we all had very very different styles of drawing and there for we each had a very distinct audience. For example Terry was popular with Disney and sports fans, Sajad was very popular with tradition comic fan and i was popular with video game and pop culture fans. These guys along with my boss Brimstone all looked out for me at the con. I really couldn't asked to be apart of a better team of guys. Thankyou guys!!!

For the first time ever at a con i could not keep track of the number of commissions I was doing. I felt like every time i looked up there was someone else to talk to and that lead to a new commission. I got to draw Kerrigan from Star Craft, Tinker Bell, Cheetara, Wonder Woman, Garrus, and some portraits to name a couple. Its always great to challenge my artistic skills with people commission. I get to draw things I wouldn't normally draw. It was totally kick ass!

On top of sharing a table with some of the coolest guys alive I was also asked to judge the costume contest. For those of you who know me very well, you know I was a very very enthusiastic cosplayer when i was a teenager. So When I was asked you can imagine how excited I was. There were more than 150 contestants in the cosplay, for some people that would be a bit scary. Not to me. I LOVE being in the spotlight. So Brimstone was the celebrity judge, Orlando was the costume profession judge and i was the artist judge. I was handed the mic and I introduced myself "Hi, I'm Mina Sanwald. Animator and Illustrator for Hound Comics. And I'm a former cosplayer" The crowd went crazy. They whistled and called me beautiful. I was really flattered. I never got that even when i did cosplay. What a rush.

Alistair and Varric from the Dragon Ages

The costumes were out of this world good. My favorite cosplayers were the Dragon Age guys. One was dressed as Alistair from DA Origins and the other Varric from DA2. Now everyone knows i'm a sucker for anything Bioware. They came up on stage a bickering back a forth just like in the game. Then Varric turned to me and said "Wanna feel my chest hair?" In case your not in the know thats an amusing conversation between Varric and Isabella in the game. I gave them triple million points for having great costumes and being in character.

Commander Shepard from Mass Effect

Another particular cosplayer I remember was a girl dressed Commander Shepard in Normandy casual wear. Jarrett Crippen (The Defuser and the BEST MC ever for a cosplay) had a hard time telling who she was so I grabbed the mic and said with as much Gusto as i could muster "Commander Shepard!" She seemed to really get a kick out of it. She jumped up on stage rased her gun was yelled, "I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite store on the Citadel!" It was awesome.
I wish I could have picked more winners but there were only so many prizes.

Later both of the Bioware cosplayers dropped by to say hi. Commander Shepard was none other than great fanfiction writer xREBEL666x here on DA. She is a super super sweet lady who is very dedicated her her craft. I recommend you check her out. The Man behind the Alistair costume was mrbob0822 and Varric was Kemporer both of DA. It was sooooooo cool meeting you guys!

For all you guys who dropped by and said "Hi" Thanks it really meant a lot to me. Also for everyone I got to meet (You know who you are) big hug!

So i think thats it for now. If you want to see some videos of the trip and pictures check out my Blog. Also keep an eye out, I'm going to opening up for commissions on site soon as well as selling prints online.

I'll see you at the next convention. I'm scheduled to appear at ComiCONN Comic Book Convention in Connecticut this Saturday (08/27/2011) I'll be taking commission and selling prints as always. see you there!

Love Mina

PS here is one video for now. i'll post more later!!!!

Chicago Comic Convention is Coming!

Heya all! So the Great Allentown Comic con came and went with with out a hitch. It was a fun and great show.  It was held at this nifty mall that was a little like a flee market. There was sooooo many cool things to look at (After i was done drawing a ton commissions) I even saw a real Script from the origenal Thundcats cartoon. I got to draw Liara and Tali from Mass Effect, A Sackboy from Little Big Planet, and Bear Jew from Inglorious Basterd just to name a few. While there I ran into Dave Rankin of Effigy Skateboards. Dave is a great guy with a ton of passion for his art and skateboarding. I suggest you check out his site www.effigyskateboards.com. For those of you who are skaters his decks are wicked. Also at Allentown I got to meet up with Louis Small Jr for the first time in a long time. It's been almost a year since I last saw him at New York Comic Con. He made a fantastic suggestion of getting into Sketch cards, I'm looking into it and its seems like a lot of fun.

Now to the Meat and Potatoes (yum) The HUGE 4 day Chicago Comic Convention is coming and coming fast. August 11th through the 14th. I, of course, will be there with Hound Comics. I should have 4 prints ready to go for the con, one of which is right below. A Catwoman, A Poison Ivy piece, Sakura from Street Fighter and one is a secret. Also Hound Comics will be selling a book with all the hound artist sketches in it. I believe it is a Chicago exclusive. For more information on the the Sketchbook check out HoundComics.com. I'll hopefully update again before Chicago with a better preview of my prints. Till them HERES SAKURA!

Mmm, Dirty Burger in Philly

Sorry it's been so long. I have been really sick for the past month (so what else is new) On my behalf I did try and post something like a week ago but the blogspot server was down, oh well.

So it happened. Wizard World Philly Comic Com came and went pretty fast. I was with the rest of the Hound there having a good time, talking in up. The only thing I really didn't like about this con was... well the city of brotherly love was not so brotherly... Maybe it was just me but many of the people walking around the con didn't want to talk to ANYONE. But that the only negative thing I have to say. It was a great area, the vendors were super nice and I did get to draw my first EVER commission. I drew Godzilla. What was really weird was all the interviews I got to do. I love being on camera but in many cases I was not ready for all this exposure. It was like being a real celebrity.

The BEST part was the after party at The West Tavern. I'm talking Karaoke, beer and the Dirty burger. Don't know what a dirty burger is? Go to DiscoverDirty.com to find out. This party was so awesome I even got to get up on stage and botch a Lady GaGa song. (Who does that?) But no kidding, When Brimstone said no one throws a party like the Hound Comcs gang.

Check out the Videos for Wizard World Philly

And there you have it for now. :)

Big Apple Comic Con

So this past weekend was the big Apple Comic Con spring edition put on by Wizards. While there I got to see some people I haven't seen in a while. among them were David Kay, Dave Fox, Elisa Feliz, Rodney Ramos, Will Brimstone and Charles Chennet just to name a few. Of course like any con I also got to meet many new people. It was a lot of fun. There were many more artist this time around. I didn't take any pictures (<,<)

So, the only pictures i have are ones of me slightly inebriated at the Drink and Draw afterward. At the "Post Rapture" Drink and Draw there were models to be drawn and a fantastic 40 minute demo by Dan Thomas. He put my sketch to shame! It was a Great Time! the only thing i have to say after all this is ZOMBIE CHEERLEADER!!!!???

For Reals

I have tried to update this blog a couple times in the past month. Something always came up. ANYWAY, this is just a quickly. Things have a been a bit rough for me the past couple months but I won't get into that here. I hope to change My banner for the blog soon and maybe get some quality posts up. today makes the first day of production of my NEW project. *GASP*

The new banner will have a subtle hint as to what that is.

If case your are all wondering YES i am still interning at Plymptoon and LOVIN IT! Although I don't get in nearly as much as I would like. This summer there will be a couple things coming out by Bill that I did work on. I'll definitely post on this blog what they are when there is an official press release.
*Note to self, make a post about what it's like being an intern for the King of Independent animation.*

Untill next time!!!!

Small New York comic con and drink and draw!

Pardon any typos. I'm updating on my iPhone and it's not always so acurate. I'll be fixing mistakes later on. So last saturday was awesome!!! I was invited to Mike Carboes comic con and I was a special guest to the Drink and Draw afterwords. It was pretty wicked awesome. I met up with David Kay and we walk and talked all over the place. I also got to meet Steve Scott, Rod Ramos, and Dave Fox. Very cool and talented people.
As for the drink and draw, I'll include information on that later today. For not I NEED to put my headphones, there is a child 2 seats up who feels that screaming at the top of her lungs is the way to go. (<,<)

*cries* I'm so bad about updating

This is going to be a brief post 'cause I'm pretty tired. The big news is I finally landed an internship. And this is no small feat. I landed a sweet internship at Bill Plympton studios in NYC. I am beyond excited and sooooooo happy to be working for the King of Indy-animation. His cartoons crazy and he pumps out these drawings like a child eating the gummy bears (pardon the terrible analogy). The people i am working with are really nice. It's a comfortable atmosphere, feels a little like being back at school. Its really refreshing to sit down and be given a task and catch onto it like second nature.

I will probably post later about the interview process i went through (there really isn't much to say other than how nervous I was) But for now this will have to do.

This is a drawing scanned from my sketchbook and quickly painted in photoshop. I just had fun with it. Till next time!
