Hurricane Sandy

I hope everyone is warm and safe after Hurricane Sandy hit last Monday. You will be happy to know I was one of the lucky 8% who did not lose power on Long Island. I also was lucky enough to have little to no damage done to my home. I only wish I could say the same for friends and neighbors here in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. Walking around yesterday I go to see the damage first hand. Down towards Mastic beach, only one or two blocks away from my home, people were so flooded that docks had washed up onto their lawns. There are so many downed trees and so many flooded home. For a long time I thought disasters like this only happen down south. Long Island hadn't seen a bad Hurricane since before I was born.

It's going to take a while for everything to get back to normal; specially for those who lost their homes to the storm. If you are in the area do your best to open your home to friends who may need a warm shower and food. If you aren't in the area you can also help out the hurricane effort by donating some money to a hurricane relief organization like The Red Cross.

Do what you can and stay safe!

NYCC Recap

Me at NYCC artist alley table N16.
Wow I'm tired. NYCC was amazing but really taxing. I'm really surprised I didn't get sick. I shared the N16 Artist Alley table with Alexia Anastasio. In case you haven't been following me for long Alexia is the director of Adventures in Plymptoons (now available on amazon and Hulu) I am working with Alexia on her new documentary Ginger Girls. Poor Alexia was going crazy; running between Bill Plympton's table and mine.

Also at my table (only for certain hours) was the Super Herologist, Dr. Travis Langley. This is the man who wrote the book on Batman... No really he did. He is the author of, Batman and Psychology; a dark and stormy knight.  Dr. Langley is also known for college course he taught on the same subject. (Can I go back to college?) It was great getting to pick his brain on the strange relationship of the dark knight and the feline fatal. You can follow Dr. Langley on twitter and pick up his book on amazon.

A commission of my original character, Art
I was surrounded by talent. It was a bit overwhelming. Luckily for me I also was surrounded by good friends. Some of which I haven't seen in a while. A ways down was the super talented Sara Richard ( Her work is getting more and more beautiful ever day. Truth be told I pull a lot of inspiration from her work. Across from Ms.Richard was an old college mate Alex Cormack ( He has a wild and crazy style. Currently he is working with Red Stylo Media on a number of twisted comic anthologies. You know who else has done work with Red Stylo Media and was down the way from me? M3 creator and writer Erica Shultz. I have slept on Erica's couch now more times than I can count. She was there with artist Vicente Alcezar. I met Vicente briefly; Erica keeps him very busy when he is in the US.

I always say, "When at a comic con make friends with your neighbors.", And thats just what I did! Across from me was the very well established Joel Adams. Joel has done work on Hulk the animated series, King of the Hill and has done work for Continuity Studios. Currently he is doing work on his own brand Lilz. No he did NOT design Monster High. He was a really swell guy who even gave me his new table display. Crazy right! You can check out his work at

Sailor Venus and Twilight sparkle Sketch cards
Next to me was Michael Dolce who is a writer and colorist. He had a really great sales pitch, "Everything at this table is awesome" Hey, isn't telling the truth the best method? You can follow his work at

One of my last sales of the con was SO COOL. I lady wanted to buy my Star Wars cookies print. I did my thing introducing myself and giving her my card and she in turn introduced herself. "I'm Lisa Ortiz" My jaw dropped and I tried not to stutter. Liza Ortiz is the Voice actress who brought to life the english Lina Inverse from my FAVORITE anime Slayers. Thats only one of the many characters she has played. I had met her brother Jeremy Ortiz; whom is an amazing 3d artist, a couple weeks back and had flipped but didn't think I would ever get the chance to meet Lisa. I chalk this up to amazing. Lisa (if you read this) it was a pleasure meeting you!!!!

This is my new set up. Much thanks to Joel Adams for the rigging
And of course I cannot forget everyone who came around to see me. I need to thank everyone who got a print or commissioned me. You make all this hard work truly worth it! It was great meeting you all and I hope you will continue to follow me here on cause it only gets better from here!

Love you all Pinky Punks!

My crush at Roc Con

This con is SO MUCH FUN. If you are here you may have noticed all the girls swooning over the awesomely talented and handsome Vic Mignogna; Edward Elric in FMA and Tamaki Suoh in Ouran, just to name two). Many of you fine ladies explained to me in a cooing fashion "Vic gave me a hug!"

Of course this hatched an evil plan in the head of my dear friend Michelle. Of course Michelle knew about my silly school girl crush on Mr.Mignogna. And she had to drag me over with her to get HER OWN book signed by him.

And of course Michelle had to DECLARE MY UNDYING LOVE TO HIM... I haven't flushed so red in a very very very long time. (She was so smug with herself, outing of my affection)

He gave me the mostly lovely kiss on the cheek and warm hug. What a sweet man *blush blush blush blush blush*

Of course now Erica, AJ, and Michelle are having a field day with my lapse into giggly, lil school girl-ness. Ah, but it is so worth it...

What do I tell my boyfriend? He is going to be so delouse he didn't get a kiss from Vic. (^,~)

I also did a ton of Illustrations. Check them out:

An Original character I got to draw.

This fine gentleman bought my Red card from the 5finity Grimm's fairy tales card set.

Two more original characters. I think they really have spunk.

I'm so T.O.ed with myself cause I didn't take a picture of the  final version.

This was a gift to my crush. Thanks for making my long friday and much better day Vic!

Yet two more original characters. Aren't these girls just adorable?

The Three Edwards: The short Edward Elric, The creeper Edward Cullens and the spoony bard Prince Edward.

NEXT UP IS ASBURY PARK COMIC CON Saturday September 29th

See you there Pinky Punks!!!

If only they knew of the monster they were creating.
I know you like web comics. Who doesn't? But what about web comics that also features pop culture? Oh so you have heard of Penny arcade... okay but have you heard of

If you answered "Yes" then keep reading.

If you answered "No" then keep reading

(see what I did there... no it's not supposed to be funny... you are mean!)

Super Average is an awesome web comic about a bunch of dudes who have... super powers... but they are kinda useless super powers, or at least the way they use them. and among this super powered group of friends is the one average guy who doesn't have diddly squat. Honestly it's a really fun read and updates regularly (yeah I'm looking at you VGcats)

Anyway, the guys over at Super-Average were nice enough to feature me on their site. How cool is that?

The Sky Pirate War is about to Begin

A quick sketch of Shyni. Meow!
ARRRRRG; There Be a war-a-bruin!

Last August I went to a lil con in Connecticut called ComiConn. While there I got to meet Everett Soares the creator of Sky Pirates of Valendor. Now admittedly I didn't know if the comic then but, I sure do now. He commissioned me to draw a picture of one of his characters Shyni; a rather sassy cat girl. Unfortunately I do not have a copy of the picture I drew that day, it's locked away safely in Everett's uncrackable vault-o-illustrations; his sketchbook.

Fast forward to May of this year, Everett contacts me and says he has a job. He was so please with the picture that he wanted me to draw a short Comic about Shyni (who has since become my favorite character in Skypirates.) I was so delighted to get to draw her again... and this time it was for a publication in the upcoming volume two of Skypirates of Valendor.

I can't say what my portion of the comic is about but i can say it's a really nice side story. We learn a little bit more about Shyni and where she may be heading. I can't wait for you to read it. :)

With that said I'm very proud to announce that Jolly Roger studios is taking pre-orders on Volume 2. In addition to pre-ordering you can be apart of the next volume. FOR EXAMPLE $20 pre-orders Volume 2 (I believe will have my contribution... but don't quote me on that.) and $50 gets you INTO VOLUME 3. Yes, you heard right; The fantastic artists of Sky Pirates will draw your ugly mug (no offense, this is just pirate speak) into an issue of the comic. You want in? go to:

And putt in your orders!

What are you waiting for matey, GO!

Markers & Shows

They are oh so pretty.
Well I must have woken up on the right side of the bed today. I went upstairs and there was a package at my door from Copic. Now I dont know if anyone remembers the last time i got a package from Copic is was a pretty exciting time for me but I knew what to expect. However today I had no idea what I was in for.

Copic gave me this awesome set of random markers. I'm so excited and can't wait to start using these. :)

I guess it's time to share the news. I was recently hired by Copic to become the new North East Regional Instructor. What does that mean? Well it means i get to share my love of these wonderful markers even more. I'll be heading around the north east coast to conventions, stores and colleges to give lessons and teach about all the great things you can create with all these markers. I go in for training in August and I couldn't be more excited to become an official part of the Copic Family. To Copic; Thanks so much for the new markers and I look forward to sharing the creativity.

In other news I will be making a couple appearances.

First up is MASTIC CON, tomorrow (07/28/2012). This is an event putt together by the Mastic-Shirley-Moriches Public Library for teens. I'll be there doing what I do best, teaching about my love of art, comics, anime and cartoons. If there is time I will give demos on how to make a comic book and how color with my most favorite of marker COPICS.

If you are in the area and in the age group check out for tickets. There is only a limited number left so act fast. :)

Finally attending

ATTENTION ANY GREAT ALLENTOWN COMIC CON GOERS: as you know I can't make it to this great show HOWEVER I will be in your area soon enough. :) The Lehigh Valley Starving Artist Expo on August 18th. (that is a Saturday so no excuses) I talked about this show a while back on one of my "Message from Mina" videos (does anyone remember those?) ANYWAY I will be there with my good friend and amazing writer Kissy-chan (Michelle Doherty) If you catch us we may let you in on our lil furture project. (ooooohhhh saucy!) Want more info on the show? check out  I really wanna see all my Allentown fans so COME ON DOWN!!!!

Korra Cosplayer Commission (confusing I know)

"No one understand my pain. I'm just so beautiful"
I know, I know the title is very confusing. I'll explain. :)

A couple days ago A fan, Lawrence Brenner, approached me with an odd but truly fun commission idea. He was going to be Cosplaying General Iroh II for NYCC. He wanted me to illustrate him as General Iroh II in the Korra style.

Now I'm not sure how close i got it to the Korra style but boy did I have fun with this piece.

How did I do this, you ask? I penciled it out and then went right over it in ink. From there I used grey scale markers to shade. You may notice that his coat looks blue. It's actually just the cool grey bouncing off of the warm (i love the way warm and cool work together) Finally I finished off the piece by dirtying it up with willow charcoal (i haven't used that since college). Sprayed some fixative on it and Vuala, General Lawrence Benner Iroh II.

If you would like a commission I'm totally open for it. Just message me via email or any social networking site and I'll hook you up.

I'm still here.
Also guys my Absinth Green Fairy Card from 5finity/Zenoscope is still up for auction. Get you bids in now, I think this one might be a nasty showdown.

To big head to my ebay page:

You only have 2 days left to bid. I'm excited to see her get a good home.

Stay alive,
 Pinky Punks
